Hyperbaric Certified Clinician (HCC) emphasizes hyperbaric science and clinical principles. Hyperbaric Certified Technician (HCT) emphasizes chamber operation, patient preparation, observation, and operational safety. Both in-person courses include classroom and practical learning. Your professional background and intended responsibilities help determine the right path.

HCC is primarily for prescribers and eligible clinicians, including MDs, DOs, naturopathic physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, podiatrists, and chiropractors. Eligibility is reviewed by the board according to your credentials and state-specific professional requirements.

HCT applicants should have a medical assistant or EMT background. Training and qualification requirements vary by state. Yes. Clinic Safety Director Online Training focuses on hyperbaric safety leadership, including fire prevention, facility responsibilities, team procedures, and emergency preparation. HCT provides hands-on technician training; CSD focuses on leading a clinic safety program.

The HCC and HCT courses are listed as 40-hour, four-day programs. Published class times are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Arizona time. Review your registration instructions for the detailed schedule and attendance requirements.

Yes. The courses combine classroom learning with practical training involving monoplace and multiplace chambers. The focus is understanding equipment, preparation, observation, and safe operating practices.

Complete 40 hours of in-person instruction and hands-on training, pass the 12-step practical assessment and required skills tests, then pass the third-party online proctored board examination with a score of 80% or higher.

The 40-hour in-person HCT and HCC course offers 40 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ for physicians or 40 nursing contact hours for nurses through eMedEd. Claim the credit type appropriate to your profession, not both. There is no additional credit-processing fee.

NHSA certification has no fixed expiration date. To maintain it, complete five NHSA-approved continuing education credits each year. NHSA provides these credits at no charge. Relevant credits from other educational institutions may count with NHSA approval. These annual maintenance credits are NHSA CE, separate from the course’s physician CME and nursing contact hours.

If you do not pass the board examination, complete an assigned didactic project and meet with the educational team of certified trainers before retesting. The retest fee is $250. Retesting is available no sooner than 14 days after the initial examination and is subject to completion and review of the didactic project.

NHSA’s Hyperbaric Certified Technician (HCT) and NBDHMT’s Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) are separate credentials issued by different organizations, each with its own education and assessment requirements. NHSA training emphasizes safe clinical operations, emerging research, and treatment protocols, and can complement other hyperbaric education. HCT does not confer NBDHMT CHT certification.

Hyperbaric work combines pressure, oxygen, equipment, and patient care responsibilities. The program emphasizes preparation, fire prevention, observation, communication, emergency readiness, and consistent operating routines.

The training addresses facility safety principles and NFPA 99 as a reference. Your facility must also consider the adopted code edition, manufacturer instructions, equipment, and requirements established by the applicable authorities. Course completion is not a facility inspection or compliance approval.

Our training emphasizes a strict no-electronics-in-the-chamber policy. Phones, tablets, battery-powered accessories, and other personal electronics stay outside. Follow the training facility’s screening instructions and chamber-entry procedures.

Listed tuition is $2,500 for HCC, $2,250 for HCT, and $1,000 for Clinic Safety Director Online Training. The NHSA Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Training Manual is included with every training. NHSA membership is always free for members who commit to hyperbaric best practices and complete the association’s safety attestations. The initial board examination is included in course tuition. There is no additional credit-processing fee.

Complete your HCC or HCT registration at least 30 calendar days before the first day of your selected course. The discount deadline is tied to the course date. For the November 5, 2026 course, the early-registration deadline is October 6, 2026.

The National Hyperbaric Safety Association’s Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Training Manual is included with every training. Additional copies can be purchased separately using the Amazon link in the featured manual section.
